Downtown San Francisco's fall calendar brings back one of its biggest street parties this month. Oktoberfest on Front, a full block party centered on Front Street between California and Sacramento Streets, returns to Downtown on Friday, September 18, anchored by Schroeder's, the West Coast's oldest and largest Bavarian-inspired beer hall.
According to the Downtown SF Partnership, which co-hosts the event with Schroeder's, the block party takes place on California's first Entertainment Zone, a designation created under Senate Bill 76 that lets participating bars and restaurants sell alcohol to go for consumption on the street during approved events. Harrington's Bar & Grill and Royal Exchange join Schroeder's as the event's participating venues.
What to Expect on the Street
Expect live music on an outdoor stage, with the Bavarian party band and yodeling act Ladyhosen followed by the party band Pop Rocks, plus classic beer hall games like stein holding, a non-alcoholic beer-chugging contest, and a best-dressed lederhosen and dirndl contest. The three participating bars are pouring more than 70 beers on tap, with German food specials available throughout the block.
