Saturday, August 23, 2025 | 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Point Reyes National Seashore | Free Admission
Creativity meets coastline at the 43rd Annual Sand Sculpture Contest at Drakes Beach, one of Marin County’s most scenic spots. This beloved community tradition invites participants of all ages to transform the shoreline into a gallery of whimsical sand creations—from castles and sea creatures to imaginative sculptures inspired by the beauty of Point Reyes.
The contest features categories for children, families, and adults, with prizes awarded in each. Sculptors can only use natural materials found right on the beach, making the artistry both eco-friendly and true to the setting. Registration begins at 9:00 AM at the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center, judging starts at noon, and awards are handed out at 3:00 PM.
Spectators are welcome to wander along the sand, admire the creativity on display, and cheer on the builders. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged, and visitors should arrive early to secure a spot. Since Drakes Beach is a designated swimming beach, please note that dogs are not permitted.
Pack a picnic, soak up the coastal views, and enjoy a fun-filled day where art and nature come together on the shores of Point Reyes.
